Khula Development Group

Strengthening the value of education

Serve Stellenbosch has been partnering with Khula since 2018.

Khula Development Group works toward holistic community development that uplifts vulnerable families and creates pathways for long-term transformation. They work with learners in Grade R to Grade 4 who show risk factors of dropping out, addressing both emotional and developmental educational factors. They work alongside caregivers and teachers to best support the kids, and promote school attendance through their beloved mascots, GoGo and SoSo.

Many of the areas they work in are affected by poverty, abuse, and gang violence. Children face challenges including the effects of foetal alcohol spectrum disorder, poor cognitive skills, poor nutrition, and domestic violence โ€” and rarely receive therapy or support due to a lack of public resources. Khula's focus on empowerment, education, and practical support aligns with Serve Stellenbosch's desire to serve communities with both compassion and dignity.
